Multiple take-profits in MetaTrader 5

Many trade ideas name two, three or more targets. MT5, however, knows only one take-profit per position. Here is how to work with several targets without accidentally doubling your risk.

Why you need partial positions

A position in MT5 has exactly one take-profit and one stop-loss. If you want to close part at TP1 and the rest at TP2, you open several smaller positions – one per target.

The most common trap: triple risk

Opening three positions at full size with 1 % risk and three targets means carrying 3 % risk. The right way is to split the total size: the sum of all partial positions equals the size that matches your risk.

  • Calculate the total size from risk and stop distance
  • Split it across the targets, for example evenly
  • Round to the broker's smallest tradable size
  • Check that the sum does not exceed the total size

With EasyFX

EasyFX opens a separate position per take-profit and splits the size that follows from your risk. With 1 % risk and three take-profits it stays at 1 % in total. You choose which targets are used and can close individual partial positions later via Telegram.

Frequently asked questions

How many take-profits make sense?

That depends on your strategy. More partial positions mean smaller individual sizes; on small accounts the broker's minimum size can limit the split.

What happens to the stop after the first target?

You decide. A common rule is to move the stop of the remaining partial positions to breakeven.
